Hiatus

Lately I've been deciding what this game should end up being. On one hand I want to work on other projects but still make something great out of this, and on the other, I want to make an exploration platformer with improvised weapons that will occupy me forever.

From what I can see, the shorter version will probably end up being the better choice, because I could pack in more features without having to worry about crazy amounts of bosses, missions, and crap like that. Those things would end up being replaced with arena shooter style levels, a small amount of character customization, and a few customizable weapons.

Now if you have heard about the elevator level (my favorite idea), it was a simple level where you would ride in a freight elevator where zombies would get inside and attack you every few floors. Now even though this was going to be a main part of one of the story based style game, and probably would end up being cut. I love this idea far too much to cut it, so you will see that and a few other style levels in the form of unlockable mini games.

I also would prefer to restart the engine ( T_T ) so I can fit it more to the needs of what the game will end up being when it is finished. This does piss me off alot but it needs to be done. Expect some news in feburary when I get some shorter games done and am willing to go through some serious crap.

See you after the development hiatus.

Whoo!

Last night I finished a pretty basic platforming engine for the game, all I need now for it is moving platforms and jump through platforms and I will have finished Todd's platforming. Then, I can transfer it over to the other characters and edit it slightly for their uses. I'll show a video when I finish that.

zombies are chips?

ZombieChips is the title of a project that I plan to work on and off on for a long while. It is the story of a group of 5 people who are all trying to survive an isolated zombie apocalypse. Basically one day (as in all zombie movies) zombies just show up and they have to get out of the city. Little did they know the city was entirely covered in a gigantic dome. So they take refuge on the top of the corporation inc. skyscraper. Once on top they overhear a radio message explaining that once all of the zombies are gone they plan to remove the dome to search for survivors. That's about it before going into to many major details.

The game is basically an action platformer with switchable weapons. Each world will be pretty linear with only small paths that might lead you off track, but they almost always have rewards. You can choose from 1 of 4 characters at any time you are at safe rooms. The safe rooms provide transitions to new sections, missions, and ammo if your character has a gun.
There will be epic boss fights and of course plenty of zombies to kill.

Right now, I am working on the platforming engine for each character and the graphics. I'll post a trailer when I get some levels built.

The 5 survivors (4 playable ones) are here.
Todd (17)- A high school drop out who is extremely into heavy metal music, he survived long enough to meet the others by using a cattle prod to zap his way to safety. His role in the game is the well rounded character, he jumps normally, has normal attack strength and everything. He is probably the character most people will play on their first playthough.

Vince (46)- The owner of corporation inc. He is found on the top of the skyscraper close to commiting suicide, he seems to hate the zombie apocalypse more than anybody and is the strong-defensive character.
He uses melee weapons and is uncapable of holding guns and stuff without breaking them. In fact the only gun he uses is a stapler.

Kathy (23)- An artist who lives on the city outskirts, she got her house crushed when the dome was placed and she ended up being in her yard when it happened. Fueled by rage at the government, she plans to get out of the dome so she can beat the snot out of them. She plays the role of the ranged speedy character and of course uses plenty of guns, basically only using melee weapons when she is out of ammo.

Smell (60's)- A hobo who was planning to turn his life around and like the others, it was interupted by zombies. He thinks aliens did everything and of course, is a little on the weird side. His stuff attacks are all weapon based, he uses guns and melee weapons. He won't be too good of a character right off the bat, but will later on be worth using.

Carl (35)- The only character that is unplayable in terms of the normal game. He was cowering in his helicopter when the group found him and he takes them to the top of the skyscraper. The only time you ever play him will be in short mini missions toward the end of the game involving the copter.

Well i guess that is about it for now, I'll release a demo which will be showcasing the shooting and platforming for each character soon.
